Second to the round wire, Nichrome flat wire is also widely applied in various heating applications.
Many Heating appliance producers turn to the Nichrome flat wire because it has unique advantages in heat dissipation, welding contact area, fatigue resistance, hardness control, etc.
But before buying, at least you need to know in which way the flat wire is produced, then you can understand if it is your best option.
There are Three methods to produce Nichrome Ribbons(Flat wires) among Chinese Nickel Alloy wire manufacturers.
They are rolling (calendering), profiled die drawing, and strip slitting.
NO1. Profiled die drawing is similar to the round wire production process, and uses a rectangular profiled wire drawing die for drawing. However, this method can only produce flat wires with a low aspect ratio, and it is easy to cause uneven deformation or even breakage of the alloy wire, and it is impossible to produce products with high precision and surface quality.
NO2. Strip slitting is currently the most common in China. This process uses a slitting unit to cut a wide strip to obtain a narrow strip with a minimum width of about 3mm. The advantages of the strip slitting process are low processing difficulty and low processing cost in the case of large width, while the disadvantage is that as the width decreases, the number and cost of the row cutters increase rapidly, so that it is actually impossible to produce ultra-narrow wires with a width of less than 2mm. The second disadvantage is that the lateral tension during the cutting process is extremely easy to cause sickle bending and wire kinking, making the product unqualified. In addition, the products obtained by the slitting method must be coiled, and large coils cannot be obtained by transverse winding.
NO3. The round wire flat roll rolling method requires that the round wire of the material be first drawn to a certain precise wire diameter, and then rolled into shape through multiple flat rolls. This process requires more expensive equipment investment and more stringent production processes, but avoids the defects of the above two processes, has uniform mechanical properties, good straightness, precise specifications, and excellent surface quality. It is a necessary process for the production of ultra-narrow, ultra-thin, fine flat wires.
In DLX ALLOY Company, we use the NO3 method to produce fine flat wires.
Not only the ribbon sizes are precise but the arrays in the spools are also smooth, which will protect your production lines from any sudden breaks and damages.
What sizes are available with DLX ALLOY? Here is a list of Cr20Ni80 Nichrome ribbon sizes and ohm per meter.
Thickness*Width(mm) | Resistance/Meter at 20°C(ohm/m) | Weight/Meter(g/m) | Surface Area/Meter(cm2/m) |
0.09*2.5 | 5.27 | 1.72 | 51.8 |
0.08*0.4 | 37.0 | 0.244 | 9.6 |
0.08*2.0 | 7.4 | 1.22 | 41.6 |
0.07*0.7 | 24.2 | 0.374 | 15.4 |
0.07*1.5 | 11.3 | 0.802 | 31.4 |
0.06*0.6 | 32.9 | 0.275 | 13.2 |
0.06*1.2 | 16.5 | 0.55 | 25.2 |
0.05*0.2 | 118 | 0.0764 | 5.0 |
0.05*1.0 | 23.7 | 0.382 | 21.0 |
Don't worry if your size is not on the list. Our Heating engineer is ready to help you with your doubts.
In principle, the max ratio between width and thick is 20. It means for a 0.05mm thick ribbon, the max width is 1.0mm.
But if you need 0.05*2.0mm, the ratio is 40, then we will use the NO2 Slitting method to produce for you.
