An air fryer gets heated using an electric heating element combined with a high-speed fan to circulate hot air around the food, cooking it quickly and evenly.

How does the air fryer get heated?

How an Air Fryer Generates Heat:

  1. Electric Heating Element

    • Usually a Nichrome coil (like in ovens or toasters).

    • Converts electricity into heat via resistive heating (Joule heating effect).

    • Positioned near the top of the air fryer to radiate heat downward.

  2. High-Speed Fan for Air Circulation

    • The fan blows air over the heating element, rapidly distributing heat.

    • Hot air circulates around the food, cooking it evenly and creating a crispy outer layer (similar to deep frying but without oil).

  3. Temperature Control & Safety Features

    • Thermostat regulates temperature (typically 150–200°C or 300–400°F).

    • Automatic shut-off when the timer ends or overheating is detected.

Why Air Fryers Cook Faster & Crispier

  • The rapid air movement speeds up heat transfer.

  • Hot air surrounds the food from all angles, mimicking deep frying but using little to no oil.
